This was my first all-wood ukulele from scratch. I spent a few days with my brother-in-law, Howard Replogle, in his shop in Washington. He got into lutherie about the same time I did, and had a lot of hands-on professional training. I learned a great deal about proper ways to perform many tasks, and inspected (and copied) many of his jigs and tools. I bent the sides there and brought them home with the matching top and back to build the rest. I learned to rout a channel for the abalone rosette, plus the bubinga binding and purfling. Other firsts were a bound fretboard, soundport, mortise & tenon neck joint, and K&K pickup installation. It has a very mellow, warm tone and is well suited to the fingerstyle music I play. It has DGBE baritone tuning.
