This Curly Maple and Sitka Spruce concert was built in tandem with the Dogwood uke. They are basically junior versions of the Wave and Diamondback ukes, with cutaways, arm bevels, long-scale necks, etc. This instrument was built for a niece, Ilana, and the Celtic theme was suggested by her mother. I have always appreciated Celtic interlace, and enjoyed the challenging peghead inlay and soundport design. I inlaid the background parts of the soundport into the side before I bent it, then cut out the intricate design with a Dremel tool and needle files after the rim was put together and reinforced with laminated linings. The peghead inlay and fret markers are white mother-of-pearl and the rosette is Lacewood.
