Built along with the Celtic uke, this one was for my wife, Katherine. Dogwood is one of her favorite flowers. It made a nice soundport cutout design, and a pretty peghead inlay. The maple and black edges of the soundport were inlaid into the side before bending, then routed to final shape after internal reinforcement pieces were laminated inside. I first tried a green and white mosaic rosette using classical rosette construction techniques, but ultimately set that aside and made a new Spruce top with a simpler rosette using just the natural wood colors that Katherine preferred.
Like my Diamondback uke, this one has 5 strings with both a high and low G in the 4th string course, cutaway, arm bevel and Canarywood back and sides.
I beaded a strap for this with a lovely, colorful dogwood pattern. The peyote stitch with tiny size 11 beads took 70 hours, nearly as long as building the ukulele, and compliments it beautifully.
