This companion piece to the Oz tenor is exactly the same size and shape, but has heavier gauge strings to enable standard DGBE baritone tuning. The harp strings are also tuned correspondingly lower. It has a very mellow, rich sound with even more sustain than the Oz tenor. It lends itself well to many of the classical pieces I play. As I most often tune it, it has a slightly wider range than a guitar. The K&K Pure Classical 4-spot pickup maintains a nice acoustic sound when plugged in.
Alice in Wonderland seemed a fitting compliment to the Wizard of Oz theme of the tenor, and has some of my favorite inlays thus far. Alice and the White Rabbit adorn the pegheads, with the Hookah Smoking Caterpillar on the upper bout. The Red Queen, Walrus, Dodo, Mad Hatter and card suits mark the frets, while the Cheshire Cat hides in the harp arm soundhole.
I decided to make a custom Canarywood case for this instrument, as well as a loom-beaded strap featuring the 4 suits in a deck of cards.
